Episode 14 - Steve

 Texas, U.S.A

The ringing of his phone wakes Steve up; he answers the call on the third ring with the person on the other line saying “Black Star, we have a mission for you. Do you accept?”

“Yes.” Steve replies as he sits up straight on the bed fully alert.

“A few days ago, we captured a man that defected from us during an operation with Burner in Cyprus. The man was tracked to the U.K and captured by Ghost. He was interrogated and divulged information that he was meant to meet up with someone in the U.S this night. The location of that meeting is being sent to you now. Get to the place and find out what you can.”

“No problem.” Steve says as he hangs up.

Steve grabs his jacket, checks to see if his gun is loaded and carries the keys to his car. He locks the door to his apartment and heads towards the parking lot. He enters the car and drives for the next one hour to the location sent to him. He parks a few blocks from the location, gets out of the car and approaches the building on foot. It is a residential area so the area is quiet by this time of the night. He sees the house where the meeting is supposed to happen, thinks about whether to go in or not. He decides to go in through the back of the house.

As he approaches the back, he sees a man armed with a gun sitting in a chair. Steve sneaks up behind him and uses the butt of his gun to knock the man unconscious. He looks through the window into the house and sees two figures. He gets to the door at the back and is about to open it when he hears “Don’t move.” Steve stays as he is. The voice says “Throw away your weapon and put your hands up.” Steve does as he is told. “Now turn around.” Steve turns around and sees a man pointing a gun at him. The man shouts into the house. “Boss, I got something out here.” The backdoor that Steve was about to enter through opens and out steps a man. Steve looks back and sees the Chief.

The Chief looks at Steve “I know this man. He works with me.”

The man pointing the gun at Steve said “I caught him creeping around the house. He had a gun on him and plus he knocked out Alfred.” The man says as he points to the gun on the floor and at the man that was unconscious on the chair.

The Chief looks at the gun and the man that was unconscious. He processes it all and then he looks at Steve. “You did not come here. You were sent here. Weren’t you?” Steve just remains quiet. “Now I understand.” The Chief says as a matter of fact. He closes the door behind him and picks up Steve’s gun. He tells the other man “Go and get the car ready. We are heading out.” The man disappears into the night. It is just Steve and the Chief now.

Steve looks at the houses around. He knows this area is populated with people so there is no way the Chief would risk pulling the trigger here. He swings his elbow back and hits the Chief knocking him down. Steve begins to run and jumps behind a bush. He brings out his phone and dials the number that called him over an hour ago. He hears the Chief headed in his direction. Steve locks his phone and puts it back into his pocket. The Chief sees him on the ground and says “If you try that again. It would be your last move, now get up.” A car pulls up near the house and the Chief tells Steve to get in. He gets in doing his best to act normal because he knew that as long as he was not searched, the people who sent him were listening to everything that was being said.
